MOKATE with GDA

Nowadays, healthy eating is not only a momentary trend, it is more and more permanently becoming a part of our lifestyle. A well-balanced diet is a basis for keeping in good health and condition. But even if we know how much energy our bodies require, few of us have the time to calculate each day, and most of all to remember, how many calories particular products contain. It is especially difficult in the case of ready-made products, made from many different ingredients. Food experts as well as the producers have made this easier for consumers. That first group, working as a part of the Confederation of the Food and Drink Industries of the European Union, has prepared a system of labelling food products, GDA. GDA stands for Guideline Daily Amount, indicating recommended daily intake. Producers, completely voluntarily, can place GDA labels on the packaging of their products. But let's start from the beginning. What does the GDA's information really tell us? Without a doubt, it helps us to built a well-balanced diet. Why? Because it not only tells us exactly how much particular nutritional value given product contains, but also presents this information divided into servings of the product. And the percentage information tell us what share a given ingredient has in our daily requirement. This information is, of course, approximate. It wouldn't be possible to create a chart which would take into consideration individual differences between people. That is why the experts worked on the assumption that an average healthy person requires 2000 calories daily, which is 100% of the daily nutritional need. The GDA information found on packaging gives us a hint in regard to the approximate daily intake of calories, proteins, carbohydrates, fat, saturated fatty acids, fibre, sodium and sugar. The distinctive graphic format makes it easy to find this information. Information is displayed in a clear and simple way, so people who don't know much about nutrition or those starting their calorie-counting adventure won't have any problems reading it. These labels are also very helpful for those who need to watch how much of certain products they intake for health reasons. The law does not require producers to place these labels on their products. It is done through their good will and in order to help consumers. Packaging containing GDA labels can be seen more and more often on store shelves. Mokate has recently joined the circle of companies using GDA labelling on their products. It is yet another proof that for the company, the client is most important. This good approach has been cultivated for years, so that Mokate enthusiasts can reap the benefits of the newest technological achievements. Katarzyna Pytlowany
